New FMLA Guidance from the Department of Labor
The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) continues its efforts to make the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) more understandable in the face of recent amendments. On June 27, 2012 at 2 p.m. EDT, the DOL’s Wage and Hour Division will host a free public webinar on the FMLA. The DOL intends to focus the webinar on recent guidance regarding nontraditional families. Registration at http://s.dol.gov/T2 is required for participation.
The DOL also recently published a booklet designed to answer frequent employee questions regarding the FMLA. The booklet summarizes basic aspects of the FMLA and the DOL’s interpretation of its requirements. As the booklet points out, individual employer policies and state and local laws often impact leave administration and should also be consulted.
