Overview

Sandy Girifalco focuses her practice on representing clients in complex commercial litigation and defending employers in a variety of employment-related cases. Her clients include financial services companies, insurance companies, nonprofit organizations, colleges and universities, and manufacturing plants. Sandy represents clients in state and federal courts, and in administrative and arbitration tribunals. She also works with clients to avoid claims by helping them comply with applicable laws, manage employee problems and resolve disputes early.

As a commercial litigator, Sandy focuses her practice on complex commercial litigation, defense of class actions and other corporate disputes. She regularly represents corporate and institutional clients in sophisticated legal matters, including breach of contract and business torts.

As an employment attorney, Sandy represents clients on a broad spectrum of issues ranging from age and race discrimination to sexual harassment to drug testing to Department of Labor investigations. In addition, she handles matters relating to restrictive covenants, employment agreements, employee terminations, benefits, and wage and hour issues.

  • partnered with a client to orchestrate a termination to ensure the best defense possible against an anticipated age discrimination claim
  • convinced the Department of Labor, Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs, to withdraw notices of violation it issued alleging failure to pay equal wages to women
  • identified legal problems in an employee handbook and revised anti-harassment and family and medical leave policies to comply with the law

  • won employment arbitration, the outcome of which had significant implications for the company regarding pay-outs to other employees
