Christine Debevec litigates a diverse range of actions, with a primary focus on defending claims brought against financial services companies as well as insurers. Her practice, however, spans a variety of other practice areas, including ERISA, health care, mergers & acquisitions, pharmaceutical and product liability.

Christine has significant experience in defending state and federal class actions and multidistrict litigation matters. She also has managed a number of complex e-discovery collections and reviews. Christine handles cases through every stage of litigation and appeal, from negotiating an early resolution up to trying the case to judgment, verdict or award. She regularly conducts early case assessment to consider a strategy for early and efficient resolution.

Representative Matters

  • represented national and regional financial institutions in a variety of consumer finance and mortgage disputes, including litigation arising out of troubled loans; credit reporting; debt collection practices; real estate tax sales; and claims involving the origination, servicing, reporting and collection of loans, contested foreclosure matters, and loan workouts and modifications. Defended claims brought under a variety of federal and state statutory schemes, such as the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC), Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA), Truth-in-Lending Act (TILA) and Regulation Z
  • defended banks and credit unions in six separate putative class actions involving allegations under Article 9 of the Uniform Commercial Code and Pennsylvania state law
  • obtained decertification of the class and summary judgment in a Maryland class action against a health care insurer and HMO regarding novel coordination-of-benefits claims
  • defended national securities broker-dealers against customer claims involving a variety of products (such as auction-rate securities, private placements, fixed income/annuities, options, mutual funds and common stocks) in state and federal courts and before industry arbitration panels
  • participated in internal and regulatory investigations, including conducting witness interviews, defending witnesses in depositions and interviews before self-regulatory agencies, negotiating settlements, and responding to regulatory inquiries and subpoenas
  • assisted mutual fund clients in the development of compliance policies and procedures relating to “pay-to-play” laws
  • represented property & casualty and liability insurers in a variety of coverage disputes, including disability, health, property damage and environmental contamination
  • defended flood insurance claims brought against Write-Your-Own companies under the National Flood Insurance Program following Superstorm Sandy and other flooding events
  • defended liquidated insurance companies in coverage disputes; objections to notice of determinations (NODs); claims involving program managers, third-party administrator (TPAs) and managing general agents (MGAs); and reinsurance claims
  • litigated employee benefit claims filed by members and participants of ERISA plans against health care insurers and health management organizations for alleged wrongful administration of claims
  • defended a medical clinic in multimillion dollar malpractice case involving significant neurological injuries allegedly resulting from radiation treatment
  • consulted on appropriate procedures for medical providers pertaining to the reporting of overbilling/credit balances pursuant to state and federal law and on various billing and collection issues
  • defended a complex product defect case involving electrical transformers, including coordinating significant e-discovery and numerous highly technical expert submissions, taking and defending depositions of fact and expert witnesses, and managing trial preparation
  • represented pharmaceutical and health care companies in litigation and regulatory matters, including products liability defense, responding to third-party subpoenas, and counseling for compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements; defended multinational pharmaceutical companies in mass tort actions and managing large e-discovery review
  • represented national and regional banks in a variety of employment disputes, including statutory discrimination claims, retaliation claims, lawsuits relating to non-compete agreements, wage issues, claims under the Older Worker’s Benefit Protection Act, and contract and tort issues
  • secured dismissal of nonprofit organizations in more than 75 civil cases, including through motions for judgment on the pleadings, on the basis of the expiration of the statute of limitations and motion to dismiss putative class action case involving federal RICO and civil rights claims

When not practicing law, Christine is an avid supporter of the arts, currently serving on the board of Philadelphia Young Playwrights. She also enjoys cheering for Notre Dame football and is a board member of the Notre Dame Club of Philadelphia and chair of the local ND Women Connect group. Christine was appointed as a field director with the National Notre Dame Women Connect Steering Committee.
