We know what you’re thinking…every firm’s summer program sounds the same – fun social events, challenging work and a collegial atmosphere. So we think you should be asking, “What makes them different?” Stradley Ronon’s summer program is not your standard fare. We are confident that after spending "A Summer @ Stradley Ronon" you will come to the same conclusion that they, and many others have…that Stradley Ronon is the place you want to be.
A Summer @ Stradley Ronon . . .
Our 10-week program gives you a glimpse of the best of Stradley Ronon – interesting work, great people and the opportunity to really get to know what it’s like to be a lawyer here. We keep our summer class size small, about 15 students; and we hire our summer associates with the expectation that each and every one will receive an offer – which has been the case for the past three summers. Our summer program is designed to immerse you in the Stradley Ronon culture – to work with us, play with us, learn from us, and most importantly, to let us learn about you.
Assignments . . .
Stradley Ronon’s summer associates are essentially treated as first-year associates – receiving the same level of work and the same guidance and direction from a supervising attorney. Summer associates are given the opportunity to work with a variety of lawyers and in many different practice areas. We do not have a formal rotation system or a free-for-all, “find your own work” system. We provide real assignments for real clients, and try to match each assignment with the summer associate’s practice area interests. We strive to ensure that each summer associate has worked on a wide variety of projects before s/he leaves us at the end of the summer. Last year, the summer associates also got to see their hard work in action – by attending closing arguments on cases which they worked, visiting client sites for case-strategy meetings, participating in a mock trial and attending depositions, to name a few examples.
Mentors and Hosts . . .
During the summer, members of our hiring committee serve as mentors to our summer associates. Each hiring committee member is matched and meets regularly with a summer associate to discuss assignments, provide feedback and offer guidance on work-life at Stradley Ronon. At mid-summer, the mentoring assignments are rotated, and another hiring committee member assumes the role of your mentor for the remainder of the summer. That way, each summer associate has the opportunity to work with two members of the hiring committee over the 10-week program. In addition, each summer associate is also assigned a host – a junior associate who provides him or her with general firm information, as well as insight about associate life at Stradley Ronon.
Evaluations . . .
Stradley Ronon attorneys who oversee summer associates’ work will complete written assessments of the work completed, as well as provide informal feedback as needed. Each summer associate’s mentor reviews the evaluations and meets regularly to provide them with substantive feedback. At the end of the summer, the mentor meets a final time to discuss the summer associate’s overall performance. The hiring committee then meets to discuss and review all the evaluations received during the summer, and determine who will receive full-time offers to join the firm the following fall.
Summer Program Calendar . . .
We love to have fun at Stradley Ronon! Our Summer Program Calendar is filled with events – both informal and formal – to help acquaint our summer associates with partners, associates and other Stradlians. Here are some of the events that our summer associates enjoyed during the summer of 2007:
- Summer Associate Welcome Happy Hour at Twenty21
- Dinner at Managing Partner's Home
- Dinner at Associates’ Homes
- Phillies Party Box
- Courtyard Barbeque
- Yards Brewery Tour
- City-Wide Reception at the National Constitution Center
- A Tour of NFL Films and the TastyBaking Factory
- Bowling at Lucky Strikes
- King Tut Exhibit and Dinner in the Art Museum Area
In addition to social events, we also offer departmental lunches and a “Breakfast Club” series to introduce you to our board members, practice group chairs and other senior members of our firm who have loads of information and great stories to share. Members of the hiring committee, hosts and folks from other departments take our summer associates to lunch all summer long, on an informal basis, just to be able to get to know you better. |
