Karl Myers’ Pa. Supreme Court Argument Quoted in PA Law Weekly

Stradley Ronon Counsel Karl Myers was quoted in PA Law Weekly for representing the General Assembly before the Pennsylvania Supreme Court concerning a 2001 tobacco settlement that funded health care programs. The court ruled the beneficiaries of state health care programs were not entitled to the money from the tobacco settlement that funded the insurance, but chose not to rule on a challenge to the Fiscal Code amendments that redirected the funds – Act 46 and Act 26 – to the state’s general fund.

Myers said the court was right to base its decision on the language within the Tobacco Settlement Act, and he noted that the court saved for another day the question of whether the amendments violated the single-subject rule for legislation.
