Stradley Ronon Counsel Peter Tsirigotis was quoted in Compliance Reporter on the SEC's decision to inspect funds that invest in real estate on the grounds of possible conflicts of interest and fee and expense issues.

While many of the issues the SEC has identified concern fees and expenses, the underlying problem is often related to conflicts of interest, Stradley Ronon Stevens & Young Counsel Peter Tsirigotis told Compliance Reporter. In both the SEC’s present focus on real estate funds and in recent enforcement actions, the baseline concern of the agency seems to be whether registrants’ activities might be benefitting particular clients or funds at the expense of others, he said.
