Mark Chopko Speaks to Catholic Health World About Pension Lawsuits Against Faith-Based Providers with Catholic

Stradley Ronon Partner Mark Chopko was quoted in Catholic Health World regarding recent class-action lawsuits filed against faith-based health care providers claiming that the providers should not be allowed a church-based exemption from the Employee Retirement Income Security Act.

"In the Catholic understanding of the term, church is more than a steepled building and always was. Health care is essential and integral to the church's self-understanding of how to minister to a hurting world," he told the publication.

Mark, chair of Stradley Ronon's Nonprofit & Religious Organizations Practice, is counsel of record for the Catholic Health Association in an amicus brief filed in support of petitions to the Supreme Court to hear appeals in two church plan suits.
