PHILADELPHIA – Stradley Ronon announced today that George Michael Gerstein, who focuses his practice on the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA), has joined the firm as counsel in its Washington, D.C., office. Gerstein was most recently with the employee benefits firm Groom Law Group and has also worked in-house at two large financial institutions.
A member of Stradley Ronon’s leading
investment management group, Gerstein advises financial institutions, investment managers and plan sponsors on a broad range of issues related to Title I of ERISA, particularly the fiduciary responsibility and prohibited transaction issues in respect of plan investments and related products, including FX, stable value and derivatives. He counsels clients on the rules and regulations related to investments by governmental plans. He has also examined and written about the potential ERISA implications of the Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect.
“George adds to our practice enhanced capabilities in
employee benefits and ERISA law, which is an area of critical importance for many of our clients,” said Bruce G. Leto, Stradley Ronon’s Investment Management Group Chair. “His extensive ERISA knowledge and in-house experience enable him to provide pragmatic, actionable advice to our investment management clients and serve to further deepen our bench of talented lawyers in this area.
Prior to joining Groom Law Group, Gerstein was vice president and counsel with State Street Bank and Trust Company and an associate in the legal division of Deutsche Bank. He received his J.D.,
cum laude, from University of Pennsylvania Law School and his B.A.,
summa cum laude, from Dickinson College.
“I have long been impressed with the reputation of Stradley Ronon and its talented attorneys,” said Gerstein. “I am excited to join a team that has such a remarkable client base and history in the investment management industry.”
