Nicole Kalajian Speaks at FIA Law & Compliance Division Conference

PHILADELPHIA – Stradley Ronon Attorney Nicole Kalajian served as a panelist during the “CPO / CTA / Investment Adviser Issues” on-demand program at the FIA Law & Compliance Division Conference. The FIA Law & Compliance Division monitors legal and regulatory developments affecting the futures and derivatives industry, assisting FIA in providing information to help relevant regulators and courts make decisions that affect the futures and cleared swaps community. The division discusses issues with U.S. and International regulators and exchanges and prepares comment letters, position papers, and court briefs when appropriate.

Kalajian presented a critical discussion of recent legal and regulatory developments relevant to asset managers and pool operators in the derivatives space. Topics included recently finalized SEC rule 18f-4, new CFTC and NFA requirements for pool operators, the impact of uncleared swap margin rules, IBOR replacement, position limits and JAC/CFTC actions on margining of multiple accounts of the same beneficial owner on asset management, and potential issues raised by new and emerging asset classes such as digital assets and ESG products.

Kalajian represents securities and commodities professionals in a variety of regulatory, compliance and corporate matters. She has extensive experience with respect to hedge funds, commodity pools, private equity funds, cryptocurrency funds, venture capital funds, real estate funds, fund of funds and socially responsible investment vehicles. Kalajian provides legal and compliance guidance to registered and exempt investment advisers, commodity pool operators (CPOs), commodity trading advisors (CTAs), proprietary trading firms and family offices, as well as providing counsel to boards and investment companies.
