Department of Labor Expands Leave Entitlements

The U.S. Department of Labor issued a new rule this week expanding Military Family Leave entitlements based on prior amendments to the Family and Medical Leave Act.


The new rule:

  • authorizes leave entitlements to the families of covered veterans;

  • expands qualifying exigency leave to a broader category of military families and increases the amount of leave entitlement for certain types of exigency leave;

  • adds parental care leave for military families;

  • revises certain leave certification procedures; and

  • contains other expansions to leave entitlements.
