Adam Petitt is a trial lawyer who counsels corporate and individual clients in complex commercial civil and regulatory matters, white-collar criminal defense, internal investigations and corporate compliance. While his practice cuts across various sectors, including business, insurance, white-collar and education, Adam possesses particular experience representing carriers, providers, hospitals and health care systems in the health care industry on matters involving ERISA, Medicaid, Medicare, managed care, insurance fraud, False Claims Act and other federal and state fraud and abuse laws, high-stakes reimbursement and network agreement disputes, and provider contracting. With an appreciation for the highly-regulated industries his clients operate in, Adam’s practical, business-oriented approach to resolving disputes and conflicts is aimed at achieving maximum value and efficiency for the client.
Adam’s practice is underpinned by a wide array of experience prosecuting and defending cases involving fraud, the Uniform Fraudulent Transfer Act, discriminatory business practices, corporate governance disputes, insurance coverage and bad faith claims, student hazing at education institutions, temporary restraining orders and preliminary injunctions, commercial real estate transaction disputes, and responding to subpoenas and civil and criminal investigative demands.
Adam has tried numerous jury and bench trials in both civil and criminal matters. As a former assistant district attorney in New York City, Adam developed his advocacy and litigation skills prosecuting violent felonies and DNA-based crimes such as multi-defendant robberies, assaults and homicides, and conducting pre-trial evidentiary hearings and grand jury presentations.
During law school, Adam served as a member of the Appellate Advocacy Moot Court Board and Juvenile Justice Clinic. He was also a legal intern in the Business and Securities Fraud Unit of the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Eastern District of New York and law clerk for the Hon. Faith S. Hochberg, U.S. District Judge, U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey. Prior to his practice of law, Adam worked as a financial analyst for Morgan Stanley and was a Division I athlete for the Saint Joseph’s University men’s soccer team.
