Course Description:
This interactive continuing legal education session provides attorneys with practical knowledge and skills for implementing generative AI tools in legal practice while adhering to ethical obligations. Through guided role-playing exercises, expert-led discussions on professional responsibility, and collaborative learning experiences, participants will develop confidence in addressing client concerns about Gen AI implementation, understand technical aspects of generative Gen AI systems, and navigate the ethical landscape surrounding this emerging technology.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of this CLE session, participants will be able to:
- Conduct effective client conversations regarding generative AI implementation, addressing concerns about value measurement, technical limitations, and data privacy
- Explain the technical foundations of generative AI tools, including their capabilities, limitations, and potential risks such as hallucinations and bias
- Apply ethical guidelines from ABA Formal Opinion 512 and corresponding state rules when utilizing generative AI tools in legal practice
- Develop appropriate data protection protocols that distinguish between sensitive private data and client matter data requiring informed consent
- Assess organizational readiness for AI implementation through structured retrospective frameworks
