NEW YORK — Bolstering Stradley Ronon’s presence in New York and its financial services litigation capabilities, John (Jack) McGuire, former deputy general counsel and director of litigation at global brokerage and investment bank Oppenheimer & Co. Inc., has joined the firm as senior counsel. After nearly two decades in-house, Jack will leverage his broker-dealer litigation, regulatory and corporate governance experience when returning to private practice.

Jack has appeared as first chair in numerous arbitrations, and managed and negotiated multiple multimillion-dollar settlements with the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) and state regulators. He has also handled complex internal investigations, significant employment law issues and reputation risk remediation. While at Oppenheimer, he was responsible for supervising all of its litigation and adversary matters, internal litigation team, and outside counsel. He served as trusted counsel to the company’s senior management, as well as to its retail management, capital markets, compliance and investment banking departments. In addition, Jack served on numerous corporate committees across an array of areas, including new products.

Prior to Oppenheimer, Jack established a successful private law practice, with an emphasis on broker-dealer litigation and arbitration, white collar defense, compliance advisory issues, securities regulatory matters and equities trading advice. Active in the community and member of a number of organizations, he is also a recipient of the AmeriCorps President’s Volunteer Service Award, presented by President Joe Biden in 2023.

Stradley Ronon’s New York office welcomed a leading registered funds partner trio from Proskauer Rose in October 2024, and more recently, a capital markets partner from Ropes & Gray who spent time in-house at one of the world’s largest asset managers and a former managing director at Goldman Sachs who also served as general counsel at proprietary trading and hedge fund management firms. The firm also has seen recent growth in litigation involving the healthcare, managed care, white collar and insurance spaces, including in Philadelphia with a commercial and healthcare litigation duo previously at Fox Rothschild, and in New York and Washington, D.C., with a four-lawyer insurance/reinsurance litigation team from Mintz.
