Katrina Berishaj advises financial services clients — including banks, trust companies, broker-dealers, investment advisers, insurance companies and institutional investors — on issues arising under the fiduciary and prohibited transaction rules of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) and the Internal Revenue Code with respect to financial products, services and transactions. She assists corporate and governmental retirement plan sponsors on a broad range of issues concerning their fiduciary and non-fiduciary responsibilities. Katrina also advises on qualified and nonqualified retirement plans and executive and equity compensation arrangements.
Clients turn to Katrina in developing creative solutions and business strategies in the employee benefit space. She counsels financial services firms on their compliance with the prohibited transaction rules under ERISA and the Internal Revenue Code, including issues raised by investments in proprietary funds and products, third-party payments, principal trading and cross-trading.
Katrina also counsels banks, investment adviser firms and broker-dealer firms on ERISA compliance for ERISA plan separately-managed accounts, collective investment funds, private funds and other arrangements. Additionally, she provides guidance to individual retirement account (IRA) custodians on various issues arising under the federal tax laws.
Katrina advises plan sponsors on investment matters for defined benefit and defined contribution plans, including by negotiating ERISA plan investments in private equity funds, hedge funds, collective investment trusts, separately managed accounts and other investment vehicles.
Prior to joining Stradley Ronon, Katrina served as associate general counsel at a leading diversified financial services company. She also worked at another multinational law firm, where she represented financial institutions and institutional investors.
