Lewis Stevens
Founding Partner
Founding partner Lewis Stevens concentrated on civic law and trial practice. He studied law in the office of Bayard Henry, a Philadelphia financier and executive director of the Pennsylvania Railroad Co. and who also was a law partner of Pennsylvania Sen. George Wharton Pepper, founder of the law firm Pepper Hamilton.
Originally from New England, he was highly active in Pennsylvania politics, serving as a councilman-at-large from 1952 to 1957. He was appointed state secretary of highways by Pennsylvania Gov. George Leader from 1957 to 1959. In 1948, he helped to organize the Greater Philadelphia Movement, a group of corporate leaders who aimed to reform city government and revise the city charter, which was adopted in 1951.
Lewis also belonged to several area organizations, including as director of the World Affairs Council of Philadelphia and the Associated Hospital Service of Philadelphia (now Independence Blue Cross).
