Stradley Ronon hosted the firm’s inaugural gen AI hackathon on July 9, 2025, in the Philadelphia office; its second on November 13, 2025, in Washington, D.C.; and a third on June 3, 2026, in Philadelphia. This interactive, time-boxed exercise serves as the capstone event of the Stradley Labs Legal Gen AI Drivers Certification program, developed in partnership with global legal intelligence pioneer Clio (formerly vLex).

Stradley Labs Legal Gen AI Drivers Certification centers on a set of core competencies, including mastery of the complex technical, ethical and privacy issues inherent in the use of large language models. We know that people learn by doing, and we have designed our training programs to be contextual, with the right balance of study, interactive collaboration and hands-on application. Our strategic partnership with Clio gives us a private and secure place to explore how to best leverage the power of gen AI by making Vincent — a precision-engineered AI assistant fueled by the world’s most comprehensive legal database — available to our Stradley Labs participants. These lawyers and business professionals are Gen AI Drivers, poised to lead the innovation curve at our firm and in our industry.
This comprehensive approach has also served as a laboratory to develop additional training tracks focused on practical skills like writing, counseling and offering presentations as well as tracks customized for roles like supervisory lawyers, paralegals and business professionals.

We learn by sharing and centralizing know-how, which is why we maintain an internal tracker of reports from our lawyers and business professionals about how they are using gen AI and why we have dedicated knowledge management and innovation professionals who support legal teams with gen AI enablement coaching.
Reflecting a growing culture of actualization in both legal and operational work, our lawyers and business professionals are regularly using gen AI across numerous areas.
We work in partnership with our clients to explore and deploy gen AI tools to gain demonstrated efficiencies and to counsel clients on best practices involved with deployment of these tools.
Examples include:
- Building agentic workflows to support analysis of regulatory updates to U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filings that ensure a standardization of best practices.
- Leveraging gen AI to extract key data from thousands of form submissions, removing the need for manual review of the communications for the required information.
- In preliminary drafting of patents, using gen AI to create disclosures related to prior art that has to be included in a patent application to satisfy the written description requirements of patents.
- Using secure, private gen AI tools to identify and replace repetitive language with approved model language across a suite of related contracts.
