PHILADELPHIA – Stradley Ronon is pleased to announce that Environmental Practice Co-Chair Catherine M. Ward was a featured speaker at a New Jersey brownfield redevelopment workshop. Brownfields are parcels of land that are underused and could be redeveloped but contain difficult or dangerous environmental challenges.

Local government officials, planners, economic development leaders, developers and state and federal representatives attended the workshop held at the Energy and Environmental Resource Center. They learned how to transform contaminated or potentially contaminated properties into community-focused development projects using state programs to provide financial and other types of support.

Ward spoke alongside Mayor Randall W. Teague of Haddon Township and a consultant about the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection’s Brownfield Development Area Program and how it enabled the Township to turn seven acres of industrial contaminated property into a successful award-winning residential and commercial development project. The Township received more than $3 million in grants from the State of New Jersey to offset remediation costs.

Ward is the co-chair of Stradley Ronon’s environmental practice group. Her practice involves advising industrial clients, developers and municipalities on regulatory compliance and redevelopment projects, identifying public funding opportunities and assisting with remediation strategies. Ward is a past chair of the Environmental Section of the New Jersey State Bar Association and serves as board chair of the Wynnefield-Overbrook Redevelopment Corporation, which is affiliated with Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia. She was the 2019 recipient of the Touchstone Award from the Greater Philadelphia Chapter of the Society of Women Environmental Professionals for her contributions to the profession.
