Stradley Ronon Welcomes Two Litigation Associates in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA – Stradley Ronon is pleased to announce the addition of John Carty and Ryan A. Smith as associates in the firm’s Philadelphia office. 

"We are excited to have John and Ryan join the growing team at Stradley. Their combined litigation experience will strengthen our firm's ability to serve our expanding client base," said Jeffrey D. Grossman, a partner and chair of the firm’s litigation department. 

An associate in the firm’s litigation department, Carty focuses his practice on handling complex civil litigation cases, such as product liability, construction and mass tort claims. He is actively engaged in every aspect of his client’s litigation process, including writing legal documents, taking and defending depositions, presenting oral arguments for motions and handling matters through trial and/or alternative dispute resolution.

Before joining the firm, Carty was a litigation associate attorney in the casualty department of a law firm based in Philadelphia. After completing law school, he served as a clerk for the Hon. Judge Nan S. Famular, P.J. Ch., in the New Jersey Superior Court, Camden County Vicinage, Chancery and General Equity Division. He obtained his J.D. from Temple University Beasley School of Law. He received his B.A. in politics from Ursinus College, where he also earned a minor in Spanish.

Smith is a member of the firm’s white-collar, internal investigations and corporate compliance litigation practice group. He focuses on counseling clients in sophisticated criminal and civil matters, including those involving RICO, the False Claims Act, the Anti-Kickback Statute and a range of commercial disputes.

Smith has a diverse legal background, including experience as a litigation associate at an international law firm in Philadelphia, an associate and legal writer at a boutique criminal defense firm and internships with various legal organizations. He received his J.D., magna cum laude, from Temple University Beasley School of Law, where he served as a staff editor and research editor for the Temple Law Review. In his final semester of law school, Smith externed as a clerk for the Hon. Sierra Thomas Street in the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas. Additionally, he received his B.A., magna cum laude, in political science with a dual major in philosophy and minors in history and communication from Villanova University.
